About Alphanso Blake

Born in Jamaica, West Indies, Alphanso started working in oils in but has since moved on t o acrylics - which he now uses exclusively. He lives and works in the hills of St. Andrew from where he seems to get the inspiration for a lot of his landscapes.

Talent, dedication and perseverance aptly describe the virtue of Alphanso who has had numerous group exhibitions and two very successful solo showings to his credit.

His most recent overseas appearances have been in the prestigious Art off the Main Show in New York, Jamaican Consulate Offices in Toronto, Canada,and New York and the OAS Building Washington D.C. In late , his work was featured on the popular Showtime series Dexter. They are also constantly shown at various galleries in the U.S.A., Jamaica and Trinidad and have held places in many distinguished private collections; among these persons is popular American singer, Roberta Flack.

He attended the Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts and at the Edith Dalton James High School, he was awarded "Most Outstanding Student" in Art for the year Although clearly influenced by the works of art professionals such as Barrington Watson, George Rodney and Joseph Holston (U.S.A.), he thinks he has largely developed his artistic ideas by individual inspiration and God-given abilities.

His subject matter ranges from Landscapes, to Seascapes, Figure Studies and still in more recent times, he has become known for his astounding Semi-Abstracts with Cultural and Musical themes.
